These vessels generally use power & propulsion equipment similar to the commercial  systems used in the merchant & offshore sectors, but often incorporating low noise signature techniques for compliance with various requirements (e.g.  ICES209).

Vessel management systems and, in some cases, dynamic positioning systems are also commercial derivatives.
