23 February 2010 - With a long-standing tradition in Offshore business, Converteam will supply a complete package of electrical systems for six 292ft Tiger Shark series Offshore Supply Vessels (OSV). Such vessels are mainly used to construct, develop and service offshore oil and gas platforms. They are currently under construction at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. in Panama City, Florida for Harvey Gulf International Marine of New Orleans.

The vessels will feature a diesel electric power generation and propulsion system together with a complete suite of navigation and communications equipment from Converteam, including a Dynamic Position (DP) system. Dynamic Positioning enables a vessel to maintain heading and station, fixed or moving, by use of propulsors to counteract the effects of displacing forces such as wind, current and wave action. This method of station keeping and manoeuvring allows the system to control very complex operations safely and efficiently, which is crucial for operations at sea.

Thanks to its comprehensive offering from design to commissioning and training, Converteam will be the shipbuilder and owner’s a single point of contact for through-life service and support of the vessels anywhere in the world.

The first ship is due for delivery to its owner in mid 2011 with the further vessels following at five month intervals.
