Converteam Selected for Chinese Heavy Lift Crane Vessel
Rugby, 13 September 2010 – Power conversion specialist Converteam has been awarded a multi-million pound contract by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited for the design, supply and commissioning of major electrical systems for a new, state-of-the-art, heavy lift crane vessel which is under construction at Yantai’s shipyard in the Shandong province of eastern China.
The semi-submersible vessel, featuring two cranes with a total lifting capacity of 3600 tonnes (2 x 1800 tonnes), is destined for service in construction projects in the offshore oilfields of the world. The vessel will feature a unique asymmetrical configuration for optimum ballasting during lifting operations and an asymmetrical thruster arrangement for enhanced propulsion and positioning effectiveness.
Converteam is responsible for the electric power generation and propulsion system, a C-Series vessel control & automation system as well as a C-Series dynamic position (DP) control system for automated vessel positioning.
The vessel will be completed and ready to enter service during spring 2012.
