Converteam at the METEC 2011 Trade Fair
Revamping boosts quality and output

Berlin, 28 June 2011 - At the Düsseldorf METEC 2011 Trade Fair, Converteam will be presenting a wide range of technical solutions specially designed to optimize metalworking processes (28 June - 2 July 2011, Hall 4, Stand E 30). The specialist in power conversion offers its customers tailored high-tech complete solutions all under one roof, thereby strengthening its customers' competitive edge. In one of the cold rolling mills recently modernized by Converteam in Germany, at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe a tin plate with a thickness of just 90 µm can now be produced in the tightest of tolerances, in stable automatic mode.

Converteam specializes in the installation and modernization of systems used to manufacture and further process steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous metal using efficient drive, process control and automation systems. These include cold and hot rolling mills for long and flat steel, as well as all types of strip processing lines.

Converteam supplied for example multi-motor solutions for a new reverse rolling mill built at NLMK and the newly built heavy plate mill of Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) in Russia. The company also equipped  the complete electrical systems – 1,250 drive systems, basic and process automation – for the carbon steel cold rolling and processing plant and for a set of stainless steel cold rolling mills in the recently inaugurated New ThyssenKrupp Steel plant in Alabama, USA. ThyssenKrupp Steel´s hot strip mill in Duisburg and Rasselstein´s tinplate mill, Germany, are revamped with Converteam drive- and automation systems. But also new projects will be realized: Converteam will design and equip a new plate mill for SAIL´s Rourkela site in India, a new cold rolling mill for Hindalco also in India, as well as energy supply and dynamic compensation systems for steel mills in the Baltic and Middle East regions.

Currently Converteam got a new order from Habas for a greenfield project in Turkey and an order to modernize the tandem mill of C. D. Wälzholz in Germany.
In order to keep installation and retrofitting timeframes to a bare minimum, the company puts its trust in the simulation technology and process modeling procedures specially developed for this purpose. In this way, the new or modernized system can be put into operation following an extremely short run-up phase, saving the customer valuable money.

This technology enables the entire rolling process to be pre-optimized with simulated real-time data, used instead of real data in automatic control systems. Furthermore, an extensive network of service branches and remote diagnostics systems ensures reliable operation of Converteam solutions throughout the entire service life of the system.
