Electric Propulsion for Research Vessels

Converteam has kept on investing in Research and Development to design a silent propulsion system to meet customers' requirements in terms of signature.

Converteam has delivered over 10 vessels over the last 15 years.

Main benefits of Electric Propulsion for Research Vessels:

  • very low vibration levels: Converteam proposes a silent Electric Propulsion system, which allows vessels to operate in the best possible conditions
  • environmental friendliness: as more and more ports are imposing strict limits on emission levels, an environmental friendly vessel has become a necessity.
  • gain in efficiency: Electric Propulsion allows improved efficiency at low speeds and when maneuvering, and fast acceleration capability at low speed
  • easy ship operation, high maneuverability, smooth running: Electric Propulsion has an electronically smoothed torque control that allows vessels to operate over the whole propeller speed range from –100% rated speed to +100% rated speed with high torque.

Types of vessels that can be fitted with Electric Propulsion:

  • deep-sea research vessels
  • oceanographic research vessels
  • seismic research vessels
  • hydrographic vessels
  • and halieutic research vessels.
