The Standard Speed PMG solutions generally use 3 stages of gearbox. They present the advantage of a smaller, lighter and very robust generator than with a DFIG solution, while offering retention of existing nacelle designs, production lines, storage and transportation systems. They can therefore represent an interesting upgrade of existing standard DFIG solutions at minimum cost to the OEM or the operator.
