Converteam is one of the historical suppliers of electrical systems for wind turbines and wind farms, being present in this market for longer than 10 years with a rapid growth over the past ten years. Today, Converteam is a global market leader for wind power converters with a unique track record of more than 22GW of low and medium voltage converters delivered.
The trend towards more powerful wind turbines with maximum energy yield, calls for variable speed generator systems that meet the highest demands in terms of availability, efficiency and grid compliance and stability. Converteam has always been at the technological leading edge in this market, with for example the first Medium Speed Permanent Magnet Generator installed in 2004 and, in 2008, the first high power Direct Drive Permanent Magnet Generator, as well as the first LVRT compliant fully fed converter system.
Converteam has, since then, delivered many PMGs to the industry and is working on many different projects, at all speeds (from standard speed to direct drive).
