Electric Power and Propulsion Systems

Main benefits of electric propulsion

  • high overall efficiency
  • high availability
  • low operating costs
  • low maintenance
  • size and weight savings
  • low noise and vibration levels.

SD7000 solution: mature and proven technology

An extensive range of ship types bear out the efficiency of the synchronous drive solution. The synchronous motor and synchroconverter solution is well adapted to ships with high power requirements and equips many cruise ships including the legendary Queen Mary 2 with four 21.5MW synchronous motors.

PWM MV7000 Converter and Induction Motor Solution: a major step forward

Converteam has adopted the press-pack technology for the new MV7000 medium voltage PWM converters. Combined with induction motors, these converters significantly enhance electric propulsion in terms of efficiency, ease of maintenance and low noise & vibration levels. There is no need for harmonic filtering and a powerful encoderless controller further optimizes the total power & propulsion plant design.
