Converteam increases the production of three major steelmakers in Asia and strengthens its position in this region
Massy, 21 April 2011 - Power Conversion specialist Converteam was recently awarded significant contracts for the supply of electrical and automation equipment for three new Sendzimir Cold Rolling Mills and three new Continuous Annealing Lines.
In China, Wuhan Iron & Steel Corporation (Wisco), one of the China’s first super giant iron and steel complexes, placed renewed confidence in Converteam and Conwac, Converteam Wuhan Automation Co. Ltd Joint Venture, to equip two new Sendzimir Mills.
A complete system offering will be provided to Wisco, from design studies to commissioning and personnel training.
When entering into operation, the two new mills will allow Wisco to increase their current production capacity of high magnetic induction oriented silicon steel products by 25%.
This new contract follows the flawless installation by Converteam in 2006 of the electrical and automation package for two Sendzimir Mills at Wisco’s.
In Vietnam, Converteam has been selected to supply the electrical and automation systems of a new 64” Sendzimir mill for Posco VST Co’s new stainless steel plant located in Dong Nai Province, based on its in-depth knowledge of advanced process controls.
Converteam’s scope will include in-house manufactured induction motors fed by Converteam MV7000 Medium Voltage drives, Level 1 automation process and a Level 2 advanced mathematical model. Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2012.
With a production capacity of 100,000 tons per year, this new mill will increase the plant capacity by more than 50%. It will also allow the customer to roll wider coils for the production of austenitic, ferritic and martensitic stainless steel materials.
Furthermore, in China, Converteam, through its Conwac Joint Venture, signed a new contract to equip 3 new Continuous Annealing Lines for Yi Chang Three Gorges Quan Tong Coated and Galvanized Plate Co. Ltd, Hubei Province.
Converteam will supply engineering and complete drive and automation systems. First coil is expected to be produced at the end of October 2011.
The lines, with a total capacity of 2,100,000 tons per year are expected to make this plant, started up in 2011, one of the major Chinese suppliers of thin strip to be used for high growth segments such as household appliances.
